Oh, how I love this...in order to address the issue with the Windows AutoRun capability, which malware such as Conficker (no, NOT 'Conflicker'!!!) can use to spread, Microsoft is taking measures to protect users from themselves...but only if you're running Windows 7.

it will be backported to Vista & XP too ... they say "We are planning on making this change available on Windows Vista and Windows XP, so that the rest of our customers can benefit from these changes as well."

Heard on the phone once, "but if Autoruns doesn't work then my program won't run."
ReplyDeleteThis was followed by a heavy sigh (luckily on the same end of the phone) and a slow explanation of the multiple ways to start a program and point it to the information on the removable media.

Also, if you're not sure what it means, have you asked whomever runs this "Web of Trust"? I'm not sure I'm clear on why you're using a site or product that you may not know what it's doing...but okay.

ReplyDeleteI research security tools and apps, part of that is testing new tools and products. So that would be why i am using a product that I don't fully trust/understand/know. In this particular case what I don't fully understand is how and why certain sites are flagged and other are not. Yes, I could go and read up on it, but I don't really care enough, as my sites are not flagged as untrustworthy.

For example, what do you mean by "poor reputation"? Is "Web of Trust" a product or a service? How are you informed that my blog has a "poor reputation"?
When I opened your site a small pop up bar on the top of the page from WOT warms me that this site has a poor rating. When I click on it, it tries to get me to vote or rate this site. Although now it looks like people may have since added some positive ratings. :)
